Luo-Roo large propeller receives high-tech drilling ship orders

Global power system supplier Rolls-Royce announced on July 25 that it has received more than £70 million worth of orders to supply large propellers for offshore drilling vessels.

It is reported that these orders come from different customers who need to expand the drilling fleet due to the development of oil and gas in deep water, and also include the priority of additional propulsion systems.

Helge Gjerde, Senior Vice President of Rolls-Royce Offshore, said, “In the past few years, we have delivered propellers for many drilling vessels. It is a pleasure to see customers continue to trust us.” According to reports, these high-performance drilling vessels It adopts dynamic positioning mode operation, realizes automatic positioning by satellite technology, and does not need mooring anchors, which has high requirements on the performance and reliability of the propeller.

Among them, Seadrill will be equipped with six azimuth thrusters for each of the three drilling vessels built by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries, with a single power of 4500 kW. A Drilling ship ordered by Pacific Drilling will also use a similar propeller, while a drilling ship from Ensco requires a more powerful propeller of the same design, which was built by Samsung Heavy Industries.

Previously, the Luo-Rod propeller had received contracts for Korean drilling vessels, including Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding and related customers Rowan, Noble, Fred Olsen and Attwood, Transocean (Aker) and Vantage.
