The Seventh Symposium on the Application of Risk Analysis Technology for Petrochemical Plant Engineering and the Experience Sharing Conference jointly organized by China Special Inspection Institute and Hefei General Machinery Research Institute were held in Kunming, Yunnan. The conference has a positive role in promoting the application, innovation and development of risk analysis technology for petrochemical plant engineering.

It is understood that more than 120 representatives from Sinopec, PetroChina, inspection and testing agencies at all levels, research institutes, and universities and colleges attended the conference. At the seminar, experts from several special institutes including the China Special Inspection Institute, Hefei General Machinery Research Institute, China Petroleum & Chemical Safety Engineering Research Institute, Nanjing University of Technology, and Shanghai Special Inspection Institute respectively conducted research on risk-based inspection (RBI) technology. The promotion and application were reported. Delegates also discussed and exchanged ideas on the application of risk analysis techniques and management methods for petrochemical plant engineering.

The China Special Inspection Institute is one of the research institutes that started RBI technology research earlier in the country. Currently, more than 200 sets of RBI applications have been implemented in China, of which more than 100 have been completed by the China Special Inspection Institute. The China Special Inspection Institute has also achieved a number of achievements through the development of the national 11th Five-Year Plan for Scientific and Technological Support Projects, such as the research and engineering application of risk-based inspection technology systems for petrochemical plants. Based on this, a complete risk-based standard system for in-service equipment involving use, inspection, maintenance, repair and reconstruction, and information integrity management was gradually formed. RBI technology has been widely used in PetroChina, Sinopec, and CNOOC's three major oil and petrochemical companies and has achieved significant economic and social benefits.
