Siemens Energy successfully obtained orders for two gas turbine driven axial compressors for China's first propane dehydrogenation (PDH) project. The customer is Tianjin Haohai Chemical Group Co., Ltd. (Suihua), which specializes in caustic soda, organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals, precision chemicals, rubber and plastics processing industries, and biochemical industries. Siemens will provide two sets of axial compressors, each with the world's largest flow, and powered by the SGT-700 gas turbine. Suihua's new plant adopts Catofin dehydrogenation technology from Lums of the United States with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year. It is currently the world's largest PDH plant. “In order to better improve the operational efficiency of the Suihua PDH project, the compression solution we provide is the most efficient axial compressor with the most efficient drive equipment.†Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. Energy Business Oil & Gas Group General Manager Luo Zhiyu said, "As a loyal partner of China's chemical industry, Siemens will continue to bring the most advanced and environmentally friendly technologies to the Chinese market and contribute to the development of China's chemical industry." The new plant will be used to produce propylene, a raw material for the production of plastics. The feed air (propane = C3H8) will be dehydrogenated to propylene (C3H6). At present, the demand for propylene in Asia is growing very fast. The construction of the PDH project will benefit the development of China's autonomous propylene production and its downstream industries.
Siemens' compression solutions for the new plant include two axial compressors (STC-SX450-6V6) driven by Siemens SGT-700 industrial gas turbines. Supplementary systems including control systems, dual-fuel systems, lube units and air filters also belong to Siemens' scope of supply. Both compressors have the world's largest flow capacity and can compress approximately 700,000 cubic meters of air per hour from atmospheric pressure to 2.4 bar of exhaust pressure. Gas turbine fuel is supplied by a dual-fuel system. Its source is mainly natural gas in pipelines or factory feed gas. The main component of these feed gases is propane.
“The signing of this contract is a milestone for Siemens. China's emerging PDH market is growing rapidly. Siemens, the world’s leading manufacturer of turbine equipment, has established a comprehensive compressor portfolio that has been established in this market. A good foundation,†said Kang Junfu, general manager of Siemens Oil & Gas Turbine Equipment Business Unit.
1. Reduce compression: The piston ring helps to create a seal between the piston and the cylinder wall. If the rings are worn or damaged, they allow air to escape, reducing engine compression. This can result in loss of power, reduced fuel efficiency and increased emissions.
2. Fuel consumption: The piston ring also helps to regulate the amount of oil entering the combustion chamber. If they are damaged, they may let in too much oil, leading to increased fuel consumption and potential contamination of the Spark plug.
3. Increased leakage: Leakage occurs when combustion gas leaks through the piston ring and into the crankcase. If the ring is worn or damaged, it causes an increase in crankcase pressure and may damage the engine.
4. Engine damage: If the piston ring is seriously worn, it may cause serious damage to the engine. This can include scoring on cylinder walls, which can lead to reduced compression and increased fuel consumption. In extreme cases, the engine may need to be completely rebuilt or replaced.
