In 1910, Russian chemist SV Lebedev polymerized 1,3-butadiene into sodium butyrate with metallic sodium as initiator, and many new synthetic rubber varieties emerged successively afterwards, such as butadiene rubber, neoprene, styrene butadiene rubber and many more. Synthetic rubber production has greatly exceeded natural rubber, which is the largest production of styrene butadiene rubber.
